ArtPrize artist Mary Rouleau's sensitivity to the human figure is both beautiful and meaningful
"The body must be represented in a way that reflects reality," says Mary Rouleau, whose painting of a young girl at a sewing machine will be displayed at LaFontsee Galleries during ArtPrize.
Through her piece, Mary reflects upon the nature of creativity and young people's sense of accomplishment through the use of tools. She explores how simple acts of contribution can have positive effects. "The beauty of this piece is a reflection on how these simple gifts nourish the soul and sense of self," explains Mary.
Mary's work can be found in national collections and has been exhibited locally and nationally. Mary has led teaching workshops at the Hackley Museum in Muskegon and MESA conferences in Detroit, and has taught Life Drawing at Kendall College of Art and Design. Mary currently teaches drawing at Grand Rapids Community College.
