ArtPrize artist Shelly Klein's site-specific window installation explores the difference between mere proximity and actual connections with people
The sometimes strange, always interesting characters that populate Shelly Klein’s fine art and embroidered product line reflect her sensitivity to the fragile, sometimes random ties that connect us to one another.
"I want to try to get closer to understanding our need to connect with other people," explains Shelly. "I am curious about the criteria we use to choose our companions and the level to which we are cognizant of these criteria."
Klein’s work has been recognized by numerous national publications including The New York Times, I.D., and Real Simple. In 2006 she created a custom textile design as a commission for Herman Miller, Inc. to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Eames Lounge and Ottoman. She also recently completed a permanent 600 square foot installation of her artwork in the lobby of The Affinia Shelburne Hotel in Manhattan.
