ArtPrize artist Christy DeHoog depicts seven odd things which helped shape the history of Grand Rapids
Christy's mixed media on panel piece entitled "a Woman, a Snake, a Storm, a Witch, an Elephant, a Tomb and a Celebration" playfully illustrates seven stories. Christy uses acrylic paint as a first layer and applies collage and mized media to the surface.
Christy DeHoog creates worlds that are filled with buzzing contraptions, softly rendered buildings, and abstracted worldly forms. Child-like wonder and mature thought processing collide within every mark DeHoog makes on her canvases. Her paintings create arenas for open-ended narratives and relationships between organic, breathing machines and their fanciful environments.
