GRAND RAPIDS – “More or Less” marks a departure from the representational work previously on exhibit this season at LaFontsee Galleries, showcasing the newest suite of abstract paintings by two of West Michigan’s most established process painters: Linda LaFontsee and Michael Schaeffer.
Linda LaFontsee’s sensitivity to the delicate balance between color, movement and line conveys freedom of life in her organic, intuitive mark-making. Using a variety of media, including gouache, oil, and encaustic, her unique surfaces find quiet resolution independent of representation.
Michael Schaeffer has taken advantage of the strongest elements of his prolific body of work: color, texture, and form. These, in addition to his heightened sensitivity to composition and color, make for a bold and stylistically strong body of work.
“More or Less” is sure to elicit a variety of responses. Stop by the gallery on Saturday, April 5th and find out why both Linda LaFontsee and Michael Schaeffer are compelled to paint in a non-objective style.“More or Less”: Linda LaFontsee & Michael Schaeffer” will open Friday, April 4th, 2008 with a reception at the gallery from 5:00 – 8:30 pm. The exhibition will run through May 9th. Meet the artists and lounge around the gallery on Saturday, April 5th, 2008, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.
The opening reception and festivities for “More Or Less ” will be held Friday, April 4th, from 5:00 – 8:30 pm, at LaFontsee Galleries, located at 820 Monroe Ave. NW, Grand Rapids, MI. The exhibition will be on view at the gallery through May 9th, 2008.
