LaFontsee Galleries celebrates 20 years in business with exhibition
centered around a wall of artist self portraits.

Exhibition Opening Gala, October 26th from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm
GRAND RAPIDS – This year marks Lafontsee Galleries’ 20th year in business and to celebrate, the gallery is putting on an exhibition centered around a wall of over 40 artist and staff self portraits, appropriately titled “Putting Our Heads Together for 20 Years”. The exhibition will also showcase a variety of the best and newest works of art by LaFontsee Galleries’ artists.
Expect to see the work of some of the gallery’s most established artists, including James Karsina, David Huang, Linda LaFontsee, Michael Schaeffer, Rick Stevens, and Carolyn Fehsenfeld, as well as LaFontsee Galleries’ newest young talents: Renee Hartig, Andrew Near and Kristopher Jones.
LaFontsee Galleries started as a one-room frame shop in owners Scott and Linda LaFontsee’s Basement and has grown into an 18,000 square-foot gallery located in the North Monroe Business District. Despite its humble beginning, the gallery had been a leader in the West Michigan art scene since 1987. Over the past 20 years the gallery has won 12 Townie Awards for Best Art Gallery, 3 Best of West Michigan Awards for Best Art Gallery, and the 2004 ArtServe Michigan Governor’s Award for Art and Culture.
In celebration of 20 years in business, the October 26th opening gala of “Putting Our Heads Together for 20 Years” will have a 1987 flare! “Current events and gallery facts from 1987 will be scattered around the gallery and one don’t be surprised to hear A Flock of Seagulls over the radio!” says Scott.
The opening gala of “Putting Our Heads Together for 20 Years” will also serve as a kick-off for LaFontsee Galleries’ fall charity event, “20/20/20”, which will benefit 20 local non-profit organizations. To raise money, the gallery will donate 20% of each framing order placed between October 26th and November 20th to the charity of their client’s choice.
