Mary Sebastian • Statement
“Stone and wood exist in nature and eternity.
Pure and elemental, they have a heartbeat and rhythm.
Only to listen is my inspiration.”
Stone and wood consume me with their physical grace. Each piece waits to be opened…
I instinctively feel like a mother gently holding vague matter as a child in my womb whose future is infinite. As I work, I listen to its rhythm. It guides my behavior and sets my pace. I carve directly and intuitively so I may understand its true character. I want to use my intuition authentically to expose the organic balance and movement with nothing but simplicity.
My journey has expanded to plaster. With steel, foam and wood as the bones and framework my pieces have no limitation...only my imagination.
