Haley Litzinger • Profile

Haley Litzinger

Haley Litzinger was born and raised in the historical town of Peninsula, Ohio. The entire area, as she describes it, is haunted by remnants of the industrial and agricultural revolution. This is where she believes her fascination with mysterious landscapes originated. "I intend for my work to arouse curiosity and absorb the viewer into the environment”, she explains.

Remnants of vintage books, magazines, found images and drawings are Litzinger’s materials of choice.  Layering paint, oil pastels, ink and resin, she creates three-dimensional landscapes and scenes. She describes the process of experimentation with materials, color, technique and composition as central to self-exploration, self-reflection and learning.

Haley Litzinger received her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Kent State University with a concentration in drawing and printmaking, and has held numerous group and solo exhibitions throughout the Northeastern United States.

Haley Litzinger • Statement

Something I have realized through the process of arranging and manipulating images is that concepts of “good” and “bad” are artificial principals. Our essential nature is good; holding or comparing oneself to the polarity of good and bad will cause an inoperative disconnection with this essential nature. There is an earthly separation from God or the universe that I see when completing many of my pieces, which project an apocalyptic tone. I feel as though my unconscious insight speaks through my work and a temporarily forgotten piece of innate wisdom resurfaces, according to the moment of time when it is necessary. Through my latest body of work I am being reminded to follow my inner guidance -- to feel the effortless sensation of being reconnected with God or the universal flow of energy. This stimulating feeling of discovery gives me a need to produce work with freedom, knowing that there is an infinite source of wisdom to be learned. Lately my pieces refer to choices, human destination and questions that will in my opinion, scientifically always remain unanswered.
